Frequently Asked Questions

CLOTHING

How is your clothing sized?

All of my pieces are sized to fit real women, not typical model bodies. That means they are designed to be a little roomier, especially around the hips, than standard fashion industry cuts.

How do I know if an item will look good on me?

If you like something but you’re not sure it’s right for you, feel free to email or call me. I am more than happy to guide you through the sizing and selection process. At my brick-and-mortar store, I have constant personal interaction with my clients, and I’ve seen my garments on many different body shapes and heights. As a result, I can probably tell you right away if a specific piece will work on your body type or if another garment would be more flattering. Contact me at csbehidadolicmillinery@gmail.com or 518-567-5829.

What is your clothing made of?

All of my clothing is constructed out of natural fibers—French linen, cotton, silk, wool and cashmere.

Where is your clothing made?

All of my clothing is made in a small, family-run factory in New York City’s famous Garment District.

Are your clothes machine washable?

Most of my clothes can be hand or machine washed in cold water. Every piece comes with a care label with specific instructions.

HATS

Where are your hats made?

All of my hats are made in Hudson, New York. Each hat is made entirely by hand with obsessive attention to every detail, from blocking and stitching to beading and embroidery, blending old-school millinery techniques with a contemporary aesthetic.

Do you have more hats than the ones shown on your website?

Yes, absolutely. My shop is always filled with hundreds of one-of-a-kind hats that are not posted online. I’m always creating something new!

How do I know if a hat will look good on me?

Basically, height and face shape are important considerations when picking a hat. For example, women with narrow faces look better in styles with a bit of an asymmetry, either on the crown or in the brim. As for height, petite women look better with smaller brims. If you are 5-foot-2, I would say you should not wear a hat with a brim bigger than 4 inches. Proportionally, it just looks better if the brim is not too large. At my brick-and-mortar store, I have constant personal interaction with my clients, and I’ve seen my hats on many different face shapes. As a result, I can tell you right away the perfect hat for you. If you need help, email a selfie to me at csbehidadolicmillinery@gmail.com.

What size hat should I order?

My ready-to-wear hats come in Small (21-22 inches), Medium (22.25-23 inches) and Large (23.25-24 inches). To find out your size, place a string or tape measure around your head about 1/8 inch above your ears, across the mid-forehead, and completely encircle your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly, to get the correct measurement. If you have any questions, please send me an email.

How can I be sure my custom-made hat will fit?

All of my custom-made hats are made to your exact measurements. When ordering a custom-made hat, place a string or tape measure around your head about 1/8 inch above your ears, across the mid-forehead, and completely encircle your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly, to get the correct measurement. If you have any questions, please send me an email. I will make your hat a perfect fit.

Will my hat get ruined in the rain?

I use water to make my hats, so a little bit of rain or snow should not damage it at all. But please remember that these are not rain hats! If it falls into the ocean or you wear it in a downpour, it may lose its shape. If this happens, please let me know. In some cases, I may be able to re-block your hat for a small charge.

Will my hat shrink or stretch out over time?

All the hats are perfectly sized when you purchase them and should not dramatically change in size unless they get soaking wet or are left in the hot sun for an extended period of time. Treat your hat with love and it will last indefinitely.

The hat I purchased a few years ago needs a little TLC. What can I do

Please email me and I will be happy to re-block your hat for a small fee.

Do you have hat boxes?

You can purchase a hat box for an additional cost. Please email me if interested.

Can you re-block a vintage hat that I’ve had for years?

Sorry, I work only on hats that I’ve designed and made myself. And cannot re-block, refurbish or clean hats made by any other designer, whether new or old.
